After creating my song and video titled ‘The Second 5th August‘ last year, I decided that I would like to keep this short tradition going. A tradition of recording a new tune on that day then recording a video to go with it.
So yesterday after work I sat down with my guitar and started playing some random chords and melodies. I recorded a few different short songs however I felt that they weren’t quite what I was after and the time was ticking, it was about 8pm by this time and still no song or video. Earlier in the day I felt a little self pressured into recording this which isn’t how I wanted this to be, and that pressure was released in the earlier versions. It was supposed to be spontaneous and I noted the difference in the previous two versions was that I was off work, my mind was clear and I had time to create. Still, no worries 😉
I took a cuppa break and tried to relax a bit and when I came back to the guitar I created the tune that is in the video. I had a few different ideas for some videos that I wanted to try out but they would be a little time consuming, doable in a day but not starting it at about 10:30pm.
The idea that I settled on was to record a candle burning away in a lovely piece of art that my sweet love Aga had created. Some string, plants and flowers wrapped around a glass jar to give off a simply beautiful glowing effect when the lights are turned off 🙂
All in all I am happy for the third installment however from now on I would like to dedicate a full day to creating more in the 5th August series 🙂
Oh the joy in simple things 🙂
What ‘simple’ things in life bring you joy?
Thank you for watching
The previous versions
After creating my song and video titled ‘5th August’ in 2012, I decided to do another 5th August today, mostly inspired by my lovely lady.
In the 2012 version on this day it was raining such a beautiful, peaceful and calming rain and I was thrilled to capture it on video and audio. I thought the pattern of the rainfall suited the music so well. That was another inspiration from my lovely lady. I had just finished recording my guitar and she had heard me play it over the rainfall and so suggested that I try to record the sound of the rain too.
Soooo…. I took my microphone to the bathroom and hung out the window to record it (so as to not get the microphone wet) and blended it into the tune.
Capturing the video in that way was a first for me and I am doubly pleased that I chose to do it and that it turned out so well.
This new video is quite different. For one thing it wasn’t raining and instead was a lovely calm and warm day
I hope you enjoy this version one year later, it is a bit different so please let me know your thoughts.
The 2012 version can be viewed below
I was sitting in a room last summer doing nothing in particular when our cat Kicíor came home for some food. The events caused me to immediately write and record this song. I held off doing anything with it until a few days ago then I created the video and added the music.
The words to a previous blog ‘Peruvian Tree Frog’ have been made in to a song which I would like to share.
Well to be honest, this is the first draft of the song which was recorded on the same day that the song was written but I haven’t gotten round to rerecording it. But, I like this version very much and I am in no hurry to record again.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Peace and Love,
Lay back, chill out and enjoy 🙂
I sat down in front of my microphone and spontaneously recorded this melody.
I then put the music to this video to see how they went together as I think they are both very beautiful.
Melody written and performed by Scott Spalding.

I have finally finished recording a song that I wrote a few years ago.
I hope you enjoy so please let me know your thoughts 🙂
Peace and Love,
Short clip of one of the songs played at my gig.
This one is a cover of Green Day’s Hitchin a Ride.
In total, 3 covers were played that evening, the rest being my own material
