After creating my song and video titled ‘The Second 5th August‘ last year, I decided that I would like to keep this short tradition going. A tradition of recording a new tune on that day then recording a video to go with it.
So yesterday after work I sat down with my guitar and started playing some random chords and melodies. I recorded a few different short songs however I felt that they weren’t quite what I was after and the time was ticking, it was about 8pm by this time and still no song or video. Earlier in the day I felt a little self pressured into recording this which isn’t how I wanted this to be, and that pressure was released in the earlier versions. It was supposed to be spontaneous and I noted the difference in the previous two versions was that I was off work, my mind was clear and I had time to create. Still, no worries 😉
I took a cuppa break and tried to relax a bit and when I came back to the guitar I created the tune that is in the video. I had a few different ideas for some videos that I wanted to try out but they would be a little time consuming, doable in a day but not starting it at about 10:30pm.
The idea that I settled on was to record a candle burning away in a lovely piece of art that my sweet love Aga had created. Some string, plants and flowers wrapped around a glass jar to give off a simply beautiful glowing effect when the lights are turned off 🙂
All in all I am happy for the third installment however from now on I would like to dedicate a full day to creating more in the 5th August series 🙂
Oh the joy in simple things 🙂
What ‘simple’ things in life bring you joy?
Thank you for watching

Hello lovely people!
Another busy month gone by with a sense of achievement and a few calamities. I have been happily working on building a little shed by stripping down old pallets to make my own panels. I bought a 1 litre tin of yacht varnish the other day and started applying it to the mixture of lightly sanded yet rough looking brown and blue boards, quite a lengthy process as the boards are far from very smooth. By the time I had used just under a quarter of the tin I had covered both sides of 1 panel and a little bit of the next so decided to take a short break for a cuppa. Feeling only a little refreshed I went back outside to finish the job. I had just picked up the tin and started varnishing more wood when the tin slipped from my hand landing on its side glooping my lovely pricy (for a cheapskate) varnish all over the place. I managed to save about a quarter of the varnish, sheesh! With a pool of varnish around me I was thinking damn what a mess, what a waste! Sooooo I just started dipping my brush into the pool, mixed with little bits of dirt and sawdust, and considering I was varnishing the inside of the shed (which is a tiny storage one) I don’t care that much, waste not want not and I surely wanted that varnish.
So that was a little set back but no worries, the show must go on 🙂
Something which I have got round to finishing this month is my time lapse from our time away up north (of Scotland).
The skies and cloud movement of that time were beautiful and stunning to me and I knew after seeing it that I wanted to ‘really try out time lapse on a larger scale than I had done before. With being surrounded by beauty, peace, and a sense of ‘having’ time to set up the camera and let it click away whilst I go for a wander for an hour or sit down and read was a joy. Driving along beautiful roads and parking up to have a flask of tea and let the camera click away whilst admiring the view.
When we came back home from that trip I picked up my guitar as I was inspired to create music to a collection of photographs that were soon to become this time lapse video and that was when I created the song for my magic dust video.
A song I love but not quite what I had in mind for this time lapse. Picking up my keyboard for the first time in a very long time and trying out new software for the first time I came up with the tune for the video. Quite unexpected but a more suitable melody which brought with it for me great joy by having fun creating music.
Any way enough of the talk, here is the video.
Please share your thoughts 🙂
Hello all you beautiful people.
As you may or may not have noticed I have not added anything in quite some time. There have been quite a few changes for me over the past 3 quarters of a year, one of the biggest is changing my day job which has allowed me a bit more free time to concentrate on my passions in life, mainly music followed by photography in the hope that I could switch to make a living in these areas rather than just in a ‘day job’. I am not there yet however but it has been lovely to even have that little extra time in the days and weeks to spend more time doing that which I love rather than that which is neccesary to pay the bills.
Most recently I have just spent a beautiful 4 days in the North West area of Scotland with my lovely wife Aga, a place with which I feel a wonderous connection to nature and life and a place that I hope to finally settle in with a small dwelling (with room for recording and playing music), and home grown food, and a place for Aga to spend her time on her creative projects.
Although it has never been my intention to create and play music for monetary gain, it would be nice to support oneself doing something from the heart. I battle (probably not the most appropriate word) with myself with the desire to live from music but coupled with my perspective of wanting music to be freely available. The idea of people living in harmony with each other, one’s surroundings, with nature and with a common goal of working peacefully and lovingly for our species throws the idea of ‘money’ away every time. A willingness and desire to want to live like this rather than being forced through a collectivist ideology. For years now I have been thinking about the idea of where we as a species evolve to a state where ‘money’ doesn’t exist, where people who love to bake, bake for themselves and each other, people who want to contribute to society do so because it is what they believe but without the constraints of having to work 5 days a week. I prefer the idea of working 1 or 2 days a week and spending the rest of the time pontificating, doing what you enjoy etc etc. The term communism springs vaguely to mind but as I am not well versed at the moment I don’t really feel comfortable using this word. I don’t like the idea of government control, or any kind of control really. A man once said something which I completely agree with. ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you don’t impose your will on another’.
People sometimes use the phrase ‘time is money’. I couldn’t disagree more with this sentiment. For me ‘time is life’ and ‘life is an evolutionary process’.
I love to debate people in a a respectful and adult way as I believe that through debate comes understanding. I also believe that my beliefs are subject to change at any moment due to many times I have been proven wrong over my knowledge of subjects and times when I have epiphanies. I love that ‘eureka’ moment, when you feel something ‘click’ into place. However I do know that I prefer love over hate and peace over war and these are fundamentals that I believe won’t change.
Anyway I digress, I am not used to opening myself up very much with regards to blogging my ideas and opinions, truly sharing what it is that I believe. After reading blogging ‘tips’ a while back and with their suggestion of blogging regularly and style etc, I have never truly felt the need to update everyone to my existence every week which doesn’t help the idea of ‘living from music’. I am not a good self promoter. I generally prefer a peaceful life. I don’t play and create music for fame but rather for the beautiful feeling it leaves in me, and although I do not perform very often these days (something with which I hope to get back into soon) I do love the feeling of being up on stage and performing, it is hard to describe. Having people listen to what it is that you want to say, play and sing, just to listen and appreciate which I suppose is what everyone truly feels, that they want to just be heard and appreciated. Acceptance I suppose.
As with most if not all my posts on this blog, I just type what comes out with how I feel at this moment and because my thoughts bounce around all the time from one thing to another this may not be your ‘typical’ type of blog, if even there is one, so I shall leave you with some of the things that brought me great joy and happiness with my recent trip up north, and that was sitting inside our little ‘cottage’ gazing at the sunlight coming from a window and just seeing beautiful dust flowing around. I was able to capture a short video of it on my camera and when I came home I was inspired to create the little tune that plays over. I have also included a few photographs taken from that lovely area which you can see underneath the video.
I wish you a wonderful, peaceful and loving day and hope you enjoy this short video.
Peace and love,
During a recent trip to the Botanic gardens with my lovely lady, I decided to take a few pictures of the surrounding beauty and transitional period into winter just before the lovely snow hits us 🙂

Video with some music underneath 🙂
I have very recently bought my first DSLR camera and after attempting to understand the manual whilst the battery was on it’s first charge ( I still don’t have much of a clue 🙂 ), I decided to head outside and test it and I am glad to say that I am very happy with it.
I hope you enjoy the pictures, I certainly enjoyed taking then 🙂
I was sitting in a room last summer doing nothing in particular when our cat Kicíor came home for some food. The events caused me to immediately write and record this song. I held off doing anything with it until a few days ago then I created the video and added the music.
The words to a previous blog ‘Peruvian Tree Frog’ have been made in to a song which I would like to share.
Well to be honest, this is the first draft of the song which was recorded on the same day that the song was written but I haven’t gotten round to rerecording it. But, I like this version very much and I am in no hurry to record again.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Peace and Love,
